The Project

The Cassiopeia Project is an effort to make science education videos available for free to anyone who wants them. We believe that if you can visualize it, then understanding is not far behind. Teachers and students are particularly welcome to use these materials.

|
The Name
|
|
|
|
|
|
Cassiopeia is a beautiful Constellation at the edge of the Milky Way. Once you find Cassiopeia, you can easily locate every other constellation of the northern hemisphere.
|
|
|
|
|
|
We hope the Cassiopeia Project will establish itself as a similar beacon that helps anyone interested in science to find the necessary tools to understand it.

|
The Plot
|
|
|
|
|
|
While the videos are self-contained, they are embedded in a larger story intended to generate interest in the science. An original science fiction / romance story is the vehicle. That story can be found on this site as well. It is titled CounterClockWise.

|
Our story begins with Kevin (our hero) driving his truck along a rural roadway. Diana (our beautiful biologist) is hiding in the truck and Kevin doesn’t see her until…
|

|
|
|
Suddenly, a pair of way-too-bright headlights careens madly onto the road way-too-close in front of him…
|
|
|
|
|
|
Somewhat later they find themselves in the future where Chaucer, a mysterious project leader, heads the effort to build a time machine to send them back.
|
|
|
|
|
|
They meet often to learn and discuss the science necessary for them to succeed. These meetings are usually virtual and the three of them send avatars to represent themselves.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Jeeves, a cybernetic intelligence of the future, usually narrates and projects the visuals for these virtual meetings, even when one of the others prepared the material.
